What’s the song in your head trying to tell you?

Have you ever woken up with a random song stuck in your head?

It might seem like just a leftover beat from yesterday’s drive—or a completely out-of-nowhere lyric from the early 2000s—but what if it’s more than that?

Years ago, someone told me to start paying attention to the first song in my head each morning. At first, I shrugged it off. I assumed it was just my subconscious replaying familiar tunes. But one day, I asked God, “What are you trying to tell me through this song?” That simple question changed everything.

Now it’s part of my rhythm with God—right alongside morning prayers and declarations of His goodness. I wake up, check in with my heart, and notice the song. Sometimes it’s a worship song, sometimes it’s nostalgic, and sometimes—like this week—it’s hilariously unexpected.

One morning, I woke up with “When I dip, you dip, we dip…” on repeat. Not exactly a church anthem. But I asked God anyway, and instantly He gave me a beautiful picture: unity. Oneness. A reminder that when I move with Him—step in step—we’re fully aligned. What He does, I do. What I go through, He’s in it with me. Even in the climb, He’s right beside me. And yes, sometimes He speaks through the most unlikely lyrics just to make sure I’m listening.

Another day, it was Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift (and for the record, I’m not a Swifty). I didn’t like the song, didn’t want it in my head, but God used it anyway. He met me where I was emotionally and gave me hope through it—reminding me that He is in everything and He can use anything to speak to us when our hearts are open.

So here's the encouragement:
Pay attention to what God might be whispering to you through the songs in your head.

They might be little gems He’s placed along your path—daily reminders that He sees you, He knows what you’re facing, and He’s right there with you in it. When we surrender even the small moments to Him, He transforms them into messages of love, alignment, and divine presence.

Try it tomorrow. When you wake up, pause. What’s the song? Ask Him: “Lord, what do You want me to know through this?” You might be surprised by the answer.

Life with God really is a fun adventure—lyrics and all.
